Only the desolate red dirt wastelands of North Texas could produce the unique horror of MORTUARY ASSISTANT. Under the helm of burgeoning monster-frontman J. Kemp, whose psychotic performance gives these five songs an uncaged savagery, MORTUARY ASSISTANT explodes in a tortured rampage of pummeling mid-tempo Hardcore. Behind him, R. Buckovich and T. Allen unveil a straight-for-the-jugular abruptness to their songwriting, stripping away all unnecessary filigree to more readily strike at the listener: these are not songs to be enjoyed, but inflicted.
Kemp’s performance and lyrics are so acutely painful that one can only wince when imagining how bad things in life can get. He seems to take them in stride, however, dismissing the worst conceivable tragedies as a matter of course, giving MORTUARY ASSISTANT a joyless tenacity. On First Slice, the band confronts the question of Why should anything ever turn out right? The answer, of course, is that it shouldn’t, it is merely our misfortune to outlast disasters so that they can live on in memory.
First Slice was recorded by R. Buckovich at his studio and by J. Kemp at The University of North Texas and was mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios.
Features oversized clear soft case with foldout insert and "surgical steel" chrome cassettes in an edition of 400.
